Practices :: Tapa Wha Model

Tinana means the health and well being of the physical body

Whanau means the health and well being of the family

Hinengaro means the health and well being of the mind

Wairua means the health and well being of the spirit

Imagine all these elements to be as important as the other and that the wellness of a person is about "total" health and not just dealing with one thing only. This concept underpins the way we deliver our services to Tangata Whaiora ... to people. Whanau ora is the ideal state of being. This means the health of the one person across all these elements naturally influences the whanau and the communities they live in. When using the Tapa Wha Model it is just one way of navigating towards a state of wellness.

Te Awa o Te Ora Trust cannot work on its own therefore building resilient relationships with General Practitioners, the Families of Whaiora, the Professional Mental Health Clinicians and offering wrap around services to our Whaiora that uplift their spirit is a simple way of describing what we feel in our "puku" and it is this kind of thinking that is at the heart of why we do what we do.
